Itinerary

Early in the morning, we will transfer you from the hotel to the airport, where you will fly to Arequipa, also known as the “White City”. Upon your arrival there, you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel, where you will receive detailed information about your upcoming program. The city of Arequipa is the second most populated city after Lima and received its name “White City” after the volcanic building rocks used for the construction of most of the houses. For a lot of visitors, the city resembles one of the cities in Europe, like in France, Italy or Spain. The city has been declared World Heritage by the UNESCO in 2000. At 03:00pm, our local guide will pick you up for a guided city tour to show you the most important architectural buildings and sites such as the beautiful Plaza de Armas with its impressive cathedral in neoclassical style. A bit further down, we will see the Monastery of Santa Catalina with its enormous 2000 square metres in size, which used to have different functions within the catholic religion. Afterwards we will visit the observation deck “Mirador de Carmen Alto”. From here, we can appreciate the fertile valleys built on multilevel terraces, which were constructed during the Inca civilisation, but we can also see parts of the city as well as the two volcanoes Misti and PichuPichu. Finally, we will finish the day at the lookout point “Mirador deYanahuara” near the church with the same name. The night is free and you can choose where to best spend your free evening by indulging in the delicious typical dishes, which are well-known at national level.

We will leave the hotel at around 8am to start our trip to the Colca Canyon. During our journey we will have several short stops to appreciate the marvellous landscape. Along the way, we will see a lot of wild animals, known as Vicuna, the camel of South America. These animals are considered to produce the best quality wool in the world due to its extraordinary fibres. Further on, we will also marvel at big herds of alpacas and llamas, which graze in their natural habitat. Our local guide will tell you more about these amazing animals, their cultivation and usage. Finally, we will reach the highest point during our journey, the look-out point “Mirador de los Andes” at 4910m altitude. The panoramic view will literally take your breath! From here, we will descend down to the town of Chivay, which is at 3560m altitude. The afternoon is free to spend, but we recommend that you visit the hot thermal springs to relax your body and to enjoy this amazing out-door swimming pool surrounded by mountains. In the evening, you have the possibility to visit a restaurant showing traditional folkloristic dances and which serves delicious Andean dishes. We will spend the night in Chivay and will visit the “Cruz del Cóndor” the following day.

We will start the day at 6.30am to drive to the view-point “Cruz del Cóndor” from where we can observe the flight of the fascinating Andean condors in the Colca Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world. The condor is the biggest bird on earth and is considered a sacred bird in the Peruvian culture, from our earliest ancestors until today. During our return-journey we will have several stops to enjoy the fantastic landscape and to see small villages and towns full of interesting history. Back in Chivay, we will have lunch and then board the bus to Puno. This journey will take about 5.5 hours. In Puno you will be picked up and you get transferred to your hotel, where you will receive more details for the following day.

Leaving the hotel at 6.30am, we head to the main port in Puno, where our excursion across the amazing Lake Titicaca will start. This lake is the highest navigable lake in the world situated at 3827m altitude. We will visit the Floating Islands of the Uros, an ethnic minority which has been living here for centuries. These islands are made of totora canes, a kind of bamboos, which grow along the shores of the lake. We will be greeted by the families living there and they will show us their main customs and traditions. Afterwards, we will continue our journey towards the Island of Taquile, which is famous for its traditional and extraordinary textiles. In the end, you will walk down along the 600 hundred pre-Inca steps and board your boat in order to return to Puno, upon your arrival you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel.
